For a while now I have been DJ'ing here on SL and I have to say its had its fair share of ups and down... That's the thing with SL.. never two days are alike, and if you think two shifts at the same club will ever be the same your be in for a shock.
The thing with being a DJ is there are some good people out there and there are some that suck beyond belief! I hope I fall in the middle of that some where, but feel free to catch one of my gigs and you can judge for yourself … Please be kind :)
One of the strangest things is the amount of DJ's that don't use a mic and talk as the work... Now the whole concept for me is interaction with the people with you in the club.. and what's easier... typing loads of welcomes or just clicking your mic and saying hi to everyone...
I love music and I love to entertain people, some people I think on SL miss the whole concept of why were there, its should be about the fun, but many feel its about earning Lindens ($L)... I have only met one person that played because she loved the music and never worried about earning $L... and that was Freespirt and she always new how to pick some great tunes.
Being a DJ though isn't just about playing music, its about sitting down and putting a list of tracks together and and that's not just one list, it may be that you will play at other clubs with different music taste and types so you might need to be versatile.. However most DJ's stick to one genre of music and the most widely found music is rock! I try to be different and cover all genres and tastes, but hell that means I have a huge array of music on my system and at times I hear it creaks and groans as it loads its self up...
But for me the greatest buzz to have is a club filled full of people all asking for tracks to be played and a local chat that full of laughter and chatter... What better way to spend a few hours and make some new friends...
